Sun Life Asset Management Company Inc. (SLAMCI) launched a mutual fund on Thursday that will allow Filipinos to invest in Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and other public companies around the globe using the local currency, Philippine Peso.

Investors can enjoy long-term growth as investments in the World Equity Index Feeder Fund are placed into a target fund that tracks the performance of the MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI), an index that represents more than 2,000 companies across developed and emerging markets.

What makes WEIFF special is that it is denominated in Philippine Pesos while most of its assets would be invested in a dollar-denominated fund. This will help local investors use the local currency to get access to global equity markets.

In addition to gaining access to global markets, the World Equity Index Feeder Fund also provides an opportunity for investors to diversify their investment portfolios, as the MSCI ACWI represents equities across countries, including the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and France, covering leading corporations with a massive proportion.

On the other hand, Sun Life’s new feeder fund targets investors with an aggressive risk profile and a long-term investment horizon. Furthermore, WEIFF will be unhedged, so investors will be exposed to foreign currency risk.

“The Fund was designed specifically for experienced investors who can tolerate significant fluctuations in the value of investments and currency movements, and do not mind market volatility,” SLAMCI President Valerie Pama says. “They know that the potential challenges could lead to capital appreciation for their investment portfolios and bring them closer to their long-term financial goals,” Pama added.

Investments in the World Equity Index Feeder Fund start at P50,000, while additional investments are at P10,000.
