Greg Glassman, chief executive of CrossFit Inc., is out at the fitness company he co-founded, the latest senior leader to be ousted as the US reckons with its history of racial discrimination and police brutality.

“I created a rift in the CrossFit community and unintentionally hurt many of its members,” Glassman said in a statement late Tuesday, days after he tweeted about the Black Lives Matter protests and the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

The posts have been criticized as insensitive and tone-deaf by franchise owners, employees, and customers. According to Footwear News, Adidas AG’s Reebok also said it would end its longstanding sponsorship of the CrossFit Games following the event in 2020.

Recorded by cell phone footage, Floyd ‘s death has sparked more than a week of protests in more than 150 cities across the US, with protestors seeking drastic reform of police practices that target Black people. Protests have spread around the globe, with demonstrators from Australia and New Zealand to the United Kingdom and France use the moment as a starting point for reviewing the history of racial prejudice of their own countries.
